Caring for Pearls

Special care is needed when looking after pearls, as they are considered to be sensitive gems.

When cleaning pearls the use of a brush should be avoided, as this can result in scratches to the surface of the pearl damaging it permanently.

Use a soft slightly damp cloth to wipe pearls if they have become soiled. Cleaning your pearls in this way will bring out their original shine.

Do not use strong detergents to clean your pearls.

Pearls should be stored separately from other jewellery as they can be scratched when rubbing against other items. Consider placing them in soft velvet bags for added protection.

Any direct contact with lotions and oils, perfumes, and deodorants should be avoided when wearing pearls. Never apply perfumes and hairsprays directly to pearls.

Applying lotions and perfumes, then letting them dry prior to putting on your pearls is a good habit to get into.

Please check the links and suppliers to discover the various uses and full potential of pearls.
